Iron Man 3 is a lot darker than the previous films as Tony
Stark struggles to cope in the aftermath of New York (The Avengers) and the
need to protect Pepper, distracting himself by building Iron Man suits. However
when an unlikely figure from Stark’s past returns and threatens his new life, all
he is left with is his own ingenuity, hilarious one-liners and the help of a
young boy from Tennessee.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The plot is fantastic and so are the characters, though I
think Ben Kingsley should have had a bigger part. I won’t tell you why,
spoilers.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I also want to touch
on how far 3D films have come in the past few years. Before I never really
liked live-action films in 3D as they didn’t look right and people were fuzzy
round the edges. In animation it’s fantastic, especially in Toy Story 3 (2010)
but now it works in live-action movies as well. The images are so sharp and
there’s so much depth it’s like you really are in the film with the characters,
experiencing what they do.<o:p></o:p></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Being wrapped in clingfilm isn’t quite as fun as I thought
it would be. For one your legs and arms are pinned together so you can’t really
move and the risk of falling flat on your face increases considerably; but also
it’s incredibly hot under all those layers of plastic. They should think of
using it in thermals because that stuff keeps you toasty.<o:p></o:p></div>

I know that we haven't done all the challenges we set out to do - I was really looking forward to making a kite and dressing up as Freddie Mercury's female alter-ego, but we simply ran out of time. Thank you to all those who followed our journey through our Uni Bucket List!!</div>

thing as love. It’s a fantasy.”<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Day 1. Along came Summer.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The narrator is right – this is a story of boy meets girl
but it is on no level a love story. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUFj36OETYMMQU8KGJ8Ey1iRySFHbbtegRlT_dgNc5GxKI3KwCBZ5AQPXLDifh9wJYkzvrYsa2-YjyK9DfVLq5r84WfBfATznBGSNqLss6KHo-xOwqQNlHbFx5S4L-PN2tif2Kl3jltrbE/s1600/Product_500_days_of_summer_soundtrack.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUFj36OETYMMQU8KGJ8Ey1iRySFHbbtegRlT_dgNc5GxKI3KwCBZ5AQPXLDifh9wJYkzvrYsa2-YjyK9DfVLq5r84WfBfATznBGSNqLss6KHo-xOwqQNlHbFx5S4L-PN2tif2Kl3jltrbE/s1600/Product_500_days_of_summer_soundtrack.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Something happened to Summer Finn, a long time ago that made
her lose all faith in love and made it very difficult for her to bare her
emotions and allow herself to be vulnerable with someone. Slowly Tom breaks
down these barriers and exposes some of her feelings, her secrets, her fears.
And then as soon as the box is opened, it’s closed again as she feels him
falling for her.<br />
Not wanting to put a label on their friendship-relationship, she ends it with
him over pancakes – something we see right at the beginning of the film so
they’re over before they’ve even begun and the latter half of the film shows
him trying to pick up the pieces of his broken heart and failed life as an
architect turned greetings card writer.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
If this were in chronological order it would seem like the
perfect boy meets girl but the back and forth timey-wimey stuff gives the
audience a different view of their relationship as all the things that signal
their demise were shown before they had really begun as a couple.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The audience develops a connection to Summer, her
vulnerability and emotional fragility. Deschanel has a wonderful way with
facial expressions and they speak so much louder than words. This film would be
brilliant if only Gordon-Levitt created that same level of connection. He’s
pretty one-dimensional for all the time-travel he seems to be doing lately and
it’s not until Summer truly screws him over and he’s in the deepest pit of
depression that one finally has some form of connection to him. But then he
starts to pick himself back up again and that connection is lost.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Gordon-Levitt plays a good character though he is very
one-dimensional and seems to have a permanent stoned/drunk/confused expression,
while Deschanel is her usual quirky self and without her I don’t think this
film would have worked so well. Chloe Grace-Moretz is worryingly mature much
like she was in Kick-Ass though thankfully there were no machetes or
murders-most-brutal this time. She is Tom’s younger sister and acts as his
mentor getting him through the break-ups and make-ups with the help of school
football and vodka.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This is a good rainy-day film with friends but it’s nothing
special. It tries to break boundaries but ends up a bit confusing and lost –
especially with the just-scored-with-my-girl dance in the park. Totally wrong
that bit.<o:p></o:p></div>

Our university has a programme called Trysport, where you
can, well, try a sport. It could be anything from rock-climbing to football and
you simply pay £5 for five weeks – that’s only £1 a session. So the girls and I
decided to try our hands at horse-riding. Normally a one-hour group session
could set you back up to £20, so we thought ‘£1 for an hour’s session, it’s a
bargain!’ <br />However, it was six o'clock in the evening so it was dark and mighty cold
but it was so much fun. I haven’t been on a horse in about twelve years so it
was a surprise that I could remember everything so well. Jenny used to ride
quite a bit so she was well on her way, but Nicola hasn't really ridden before.<br />It was great fun but the only downside was as there's three Trysport sessions in a row and they use the same ponies they've got a bit bored by the time it comes to our group, not wanting to walk let alone trot. Towards the end we had to go over a jump but it was so low the horse just trots over it, but mine didn't want to do that so he just kicked it out of the way haha!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
We had some beautiful ponies – Jenny’s had a moustache! I couldn't wait for our
next session – the instructor said we would be cantering and jumping by the
time we were finished!<o:p></o:p></div>

<br /><div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
My mum has been making wine for about 10 years now,
everything from apple wine to blackberry with varying degrees of success, and I’ve
always wanted to make my own alcohol – plus every student has to have a go. I
thought of making vodka but you need to distil it, mead looked quite nice and
we even had snow to make it in the traditional Viking way. But instead we went
with a recipe we found on studentbeans.com which involved mixing squash, sugar
and yeast in a bottle with a balloon on the top and leaving it in a cupboard
for a few days until the balloon deflated. Every couple of days we’d check it
but the balloon didn’t seem to be doing anything, so we left it longer. And a
bit longer. Eventually two weeks had gone by and we decided it should be done
and we tried it. It was certainly alcoholic. And blackcurrant-y (that was the
squash we used). I think I’ll stick to the supermarket stuff.<o:p></o:p></div>

So that means that children can go and see the film at the discretion of their parents. To be honest they'd be pretty bad parents if they let a child go and see a film such as Mama.<br /><br />
The synopsis:<span style="font-family: inherit;"> <span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px;">Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years.... but how alone were they? Creepy, scary things start to happen that are linked to the girls' mother which simply aren't suitable for children to see.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The trailer is scary enough in my opinion and I'm 19:</span></span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think the world is becoming desensitised to things such as language, violence and sex. Just today I watched Men in Black 3, which is a PG, yet they're saying Bulls**t on more than one occasion and I think it's wrong. Maybe it's just me but I think children are losing their innocence during their childhoods because they're exposed to those things that we were protected from when we were children.<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12A certificates I can understand but only if the parents know what is going to happen in the film. Quite a few parents took their young children to see the Hunger Games in which children are killing children and were horrified at what was happening on the screen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12A yes if you've seen it first</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
15A no, it's wrong and pointless - you may as well make it a 12 if you want kids to see it.</div>

Challenge - Do something for charity!</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
This was without a doubt our most successful challenge. And
the most successful way of making money for charity – a good ol’ bake sale. We
decided on Breast Cancer for our charity as we all knew someone who had had it
so it was quite close to our hearts.<br />
Off we went to ASDA and bought everything in packet mixes – had we the skill
and the time we would have made everything from scratch, but we don’t so we didn’t.
Ten hours of hard labour later and we were finally done baking everything from
cupcakes and brownies to cookies and millionaire’s shortbread. We also made a
big Victoria sponge for a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ game. The prize cake
of 1.1kg went to Helen McLaughlin, Director of Business at the university. “Oh
my gosh!” she said, “I can't believe I’ve won it”. Her guess was the closest,
estimating 1kg.<br />
Everything sold like, well, hot cakes and overall we raised £171.63<span style="color: red;"> </span>for
Breast Cancer Care.<o:p></o:p><br />

<b><br /></b><div>
I have to admit from the start that we didn't exactly achieve this one, but we certainly tried.</div>
<div>
We put on our costumes, tshirts, shorts and took jumpers towels and thick socks to change into. Being February in the UK it wasn't exactly going to be like the Mediterranean.<br />As we drove through the town we saw how rough the sea was and as we pulled up and got out we saw what prevented us from achieving our challenge: red flags!</div>
<div>
We climbed the dunes, sand blowing everywhere in the rough winds and admitted to ourselves that it wasn't going to happen, not today at any rate.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So we went to the arcade instead! And had a much better afternoon, found a machine where you win tickets everytime and won over 1,000 tickets between us, spent about a tenner altogether and won quite a good haul if I do say so myself.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We will try again if we have the time, but I only have a few weeks left so it's not looking likely.</div>

With these we decided to kill two birds with one stone. We
had aimed to get to my 9AM Shorthand lecture a few minutes early so as not to
look so weird, traipsing in wearing pyjamas. Alas, the traffic was murder and a
drive that would normally take ten minutes took 45. <br />
You know that feeling you get when you walk in a room and you think everyone is
staring at you? Well this time it was real, 20 pairs of eyes following you as
you find seats. Admittedly my class isn’t that big and it might have had more
effect had we been in a proper lecture hall with 100 or so people, but
evidently journalism just isn't as popular as say, American Studies.<br />
The class seemed to go pretty well with Nicola actually becoming interested I
thought would bore her to death. The others just doodled on their worksheets
confusing shorthand with Egyptian Heiroglyphics.<o:p></o:p></div>

Jean Valjean is a convict on parole who changes his name in
an attempt to become an honest man, all the while evading capture by Inspector,
Javert. Meanwhile Fantine, a working girl loses her job for having an
illegitimate child, Cosette. The child is looked after by a family of
innkeepers who treat her poorly. Fantine resorts to prostitution in order to
pay for her daughter’s keep at the inn but later dies without ever seeing her
daughter again. Valjean vows to look after Cosette and chooses to leave a
simple life to protect her and keep away from Javert who has found out who
Valjean really is. Cosette falls in love with Marius, a young man who is part
of those fighting the state in the June Revolution.<o:p></o:p></div>

filming of an incredibly elaborate stage show. Performed almost entirely in
song, this was an extremely powerful piece. It evoked such deep emotions of
hope, fear and loss it drove many in the audience to tears on quite a few
occasions, including myself.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
For those who don’t know of his past as a stage actor, Hugh
Jackman will surprise many with his talents which are pretty fantastic,
especially in ‘Who Am I?’ His talents are seemingly unending.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In fact, the entire cast have incredible voices (with the
possible exception of Amanda Seyfried, who was patchy in places like in Mamma
Mia, but each to their own) especially Anne Hathaway’s ‘I Dreamed A Dream’
which was truly magical. The scene where Fantine sells her hair is particularly
emotive as those are real tears as her hair was hacked off with a blade during
filming.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I won't give details of the deaths but I would advise you to
take a tissue or two. Everything you expect not to happen in this film happens,
and will make you gasp at what just happened in front of your eyes. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Character-wise, the audience connects with every single one
on such a level its heart-breaking when something happens, good or bad. Young
Cosette is so innocent and fragile with a beautiful voice. Even Javert who is
always on Valjean’s tail, you connect to him in a way that one never does with
the villains of a film. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The entire film is
pure musical incredible-ness and leaves you speechless when the credits roll.
Or that may be just from crying so much.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Having not seen the stage performance, I don’t know how it
compares but as its own film it’s just amazing and even if you’re not a fan of
song I would recommend it<o:p></o:p></div>

Our new list looks like this:<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>drive to a beach and swim</li>
<li>make your own booze</li>
<li>go to a uni sports game and be avid raving fans</li>
<li>sit in on a random lecture</li>
<li>do something silly for charity</li>
<li>play ranks on your unsuspecting friends</li>
<li>go to a 9AM lecture in your pyjamas</li>
<li>make an 80's cleaning montage</li>
<li>wrap someone in paper/toilet roll</li>
<li>learn a new sport/activity</li>
</ol>
<div>
As we've had to cut so much out it might not be as fun trying to fit it all in the time scale but it will make a good article, and I'll still keep you up to date with how the challenges go.</div>
<div>
Heck, we might even do some of the others for the hell of it<br />
<br />
Like I really want to make a kite and fly it, singing that song from Mary Poppins...</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
As a university student there are
many things you simply have to do – fall in love, skip classes and have wild
parties. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
So my housemates and I have
compiled a list of “50 Things To Do Before You Finish Uni”. Normally you would
have three years to complete the list.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
We’re going to try and do them
all in three months.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
Our list includes things such as:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Feed the campus wildlife</li>
<li>Busk on campus – even if you’re
terrible</li>
<li>Drive to the nearest beach and
swim</li>
<li>Make your own booze</li>
<li>Have an elaborate picnic on
campus</li>
<li>Sit in on a lecture unrelated to
your subject</li>
<li>Go to lecture in your pyjamas</li>
<li>Swim in a fountain</li>
<li>Have your own ‘Come Dine With Me’</li>
<li>Do something silly for charity</li>
<li>Win a pub quiz – whatever it
takes</li>
<li>Make a kite and fly it</li>
<li>Wrap someone in wrapping paper</li>
<li>Make your own movie</li>
<li>Have an '80's themed cleaning session with appropriate dress and music</li>
</ul>
<o:p></o:p><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 18.0pt;">
These are only some of the crazy
things on our list – and some we've achieved already such as ‘join a society’
or ‘spend your whole student loan in the first term’ (oops) but we will try our
hardest to get them all done on time. Wish us luck!<o:p></o:p></div>

So this year I have decided to make realistic resolutions that are easy to stick to in an attempt to make myself a better person. For this year, 2012, I have three, realistically achievable resolutions:<br />
<br />
<b>1) Not interrupt people when they are talking. </b><br />
I never wait for someone to finish talking before I cut them off to give my opinion or start a new topic. I must wait for them to finish and then say my thing. If it never gets said then it can't have been that important<br />
<br />
<b>2) Do more regular exercise.</b><br />
Now I know this is a cliché resolution, but I honestly do need to do some form of regular exercise. I don't really do much except the 20 minute walk to and from uni so I always feel tired and lethargic. When I have done some physical activity I feel much more vibrant and awake. So more exercise please! I've decided to join the gym, because as I'm paying for it I'm more likely to use it not wanting to waste my money.<br />
<br />
<b>3) Manage my money better.</b><br />
I have a tendency to spend a lot more money than I actually have, especially in my first term at uni. I had a limit of £50 a week to buy food and anything else I need, including socialising. I was spending almost double that some weeks so I really need to get that under control otherwise I'll be in a bit of a pickle.<br />
<br />
These are my resolutions so in a year I shall review them and see if I've stuck to them<br />
I wish you luck if you've made any this year, even if it's a little thing<br />
<br />

far at least.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

The skill of the writers to include so much of the book, almost word-for-word
is an incredible feat. An adaptation such as this is not often seen, and extra
parts are not usually well-received. However, as in the recent adaptation of
The Hunger Games books, additions (such as the Seneca Crane character and
Gamesmaker scenes) can benefit a film and they most certainly do here in the
Hobbit. I will say they add much more depth to the film, another layer of
mystery and ingenious links to connect this series of films to The Lord of the
Rings trilogy. I shall leave them for you to find for I wouldn’t want to ruin the
film should you decide to see it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Agreed, this is slow to get moving, but so was the Fellowship of the Ring.
There is so much background to tell, so much to explain and explore in the

the real adventure begins. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Life has been so hectic and so full of STUFF I barely have time to think of a blog post let alone write one.<br />
<br />
Apart from going to uni and doing uni stuff I haven't been up to much, expect finally starting work of course.<br />
I work at Sports Direct, a big sportswear store on the edge of town and it's alright. The hours are weird and the pay is less than average - it's the minimum so I don't know if I'll be able to save much, but we'll see.<br />
So far I've only been in the stock room, a delightfully chilly room full of stock which we have to sort out, hang and security tag. Such fun. Hopefully next time I'll be out on the shop floor doing something more interesting.<br />
The uniform is a delightful cherry-red polo shirt with tracksuit bottoms and trainers (which we had to buy from sports direct) and it's not the best in my opinion but hey, it's a job.<br />
<br />
We've also been busting a gut trying to find a house to live in for our second and third years of uni. Why is it so hard to find a 6-bed student house with 1 car parking that isn't ridiculously expensive. Everytime we find a place we ring up to view and it's gone already. ARGH!<br />
<br />
So apart from the massive stress of finding a house and fitting work around my studies life is going pretty well.<br />
<br />
Looking forward to Christmas!!<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
Starring: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Naomi Harris, <span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Bérénice Marlohe, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Director: Sam Mendes</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Well from the moment I sat down there was no hiding from the
fact this was a Bond movie – almost every ad and trailer was Bond-themed or
action-styli. I was inundated with advertisements for the James Bond perfume,
laptop, phone, video game, watch and Heineken beer – rumoured to be replacing
the Martini but thankfully did not.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Packed from the pre-credit scenes with car chases, rooftop
brawls, girls, guns, explosions, creepy villains and gadgets it was proving to
be quite a stereotypical Bond-esque movie.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
However, each typically Bond element had been updated
slightly, modernised to fit with current ideas. <span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Gadget-wise
with Q (Ben Whishaw) half Bond’s age there’s a wonderfully witty scene between
them in the National Gallery “what were you expecting, an exploding pen?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There was also an apparent lack of girl-action in Skyfall,
with only a hint of some naughty goings-on with a frankly disappointing Bond
girl (<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Bérénice Marlohe). There was an innuendo-filled shaving
sequence with Naomi Harris but again it fell flat relationship-wise.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">If anyone was the Bond girl in this
movie then it was Judi Dench, whose M developed considerably as she battled her
own past while fighting the present which was forcing her to retire. This in
turn led to some brilliant lines “To hell with dignity, I’ll leave when the
job’s done”. There is one concern I had about M’s character and that was how
much she swore. I know that strong language isn’t exactly new in the world and
it may just be my love for Judi Dench but I felt a woman of her stature and
position shouldn’t be swearing so much, the odd ‘bloody hell’ perhaps.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">As for the plot itself, I felt this was
back to the real image of Bond – spying and sleuthing, hiding in plain sight.
It wasn’t the ‘shoot first and ask later’ business of his previous few films.
It had a this-time-it’s-personal feel but not the merciless revenge of Quantum
of Solace. A real celebration of Fleming’s original character<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">Now Javier Barden’s Silva wasn’t
exactly evil but he was certainly twisted, hell-bent on revenge with a hidden
yet gruesome deformity. With a penchant for stories about rats Silva always had
a dramatic entrance and an equally gritty departure.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">My expectations were high and Skyfall
certainly did not disappoint. Happy Anniversary Bond.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

So far I've:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Left home and started University</li>
<li>Got a manic timetable</li>
<li>Learned how to live and be independent</li>
<li>Got a job at Sports Direct</li>
<li>Joined <a href="http://www.csrfm.com/">CSRFM</a> and being trained up to do my own show</li>
<li>Started a website called <a href="http://thebrokenbiscuitcompany.weebly.com/">The Broken Biscuit Company</a> (some of may have found your way here from there)</li>
<li>And made a massive amount of new friends both in my house and on my course</li>
</ul>
<div>
Literally loving life right now, but I seem to have no time left in the day!! My schedule is so hectic and now my tutors are starting to give us more work to do, I'm starting to think I'll have to let something go. </div>
<div>
And I fear it may Fencing - we haven't started training yet after all as we can't find a coach :(</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since leaving home, I've hardly had time to miss it, but when family came to visit last weekend I realised I do miss them a lot. It's made me think that those students who see their family often, or Skype/FaceTime them regularly find it hard to get on because they're always dragging themselves backwards.</div>
<div>
But that's just my view, other may find it easier to cope with being away.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also have a job now. Went along to a group interview at Sports Direct with a couple of housemates and was called up the next day with a job offer which is brilliant! After years of failure back home, four weeks here and I'm officially employed.</div>
<div>
It's minimum wage, which is fine, and technically a 'zero hour contract' meaning you get your hours the week before and it's based on your performance. So if you decide to go out the night before and then turn up late or not at all, you'll get fewer hours the next week. But I'm looking forward to starting and finally having a proper job with a monthly paycheck and stuff.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CSRFM - Canterbury's Community and Student Radio - broadcasts city-wide on 97.4 and is one of only seven such stations to have a five-year licence from Ofcom. Playing alternative music, CSRFM broadcasts 24/7 365 days a year - and I just joined! I'm thinking of doing a 'Rock Through the Ages' type show where I play songs from a particular year and listeners text/tweet/email their guesses in - makes it a bit more interactive? I'll have to see what the producers say about it but I shall keep you posted on that</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And finally I have a website, thebrokenbiscuitcompany.weebly.com. Here you will find film news, film reviews and each week I'll upload an interesting video I want to share with you all. If you have a film you would like me to review, new or old, leave a comment here or on the Comments page on the site and I'll see what I can do!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's all for now, so much going on!!</div>

I've been so busy, today had been the first time I've had time to myself it's been crazy.<br />
I absolutely LOVE my roomates. I'm in a house of five other girls and they're so much fun :P Rosie is a mancunian trombone player, Jenny who will be spending a year in America, Nicola from Essex along with Ellie who's a second year and Sharon...who we barely even see haha.<br />
But they're all brilliant either way, really nice girls<br />
<br />
As for my course, I cannot <i>wait </i>to start on Monday. We've spent the week in 'Induction' where we get introduced to all the course modules (print/tv/online/radio/law&ethics) and this is literally my dream come true. It's everything I ever wanted it to be and I have a feeling this is my calling. I don't know exactly what I want to do at the end of it, like some people know they want to be sports reporters etc. but I know this is where I belong and I CAN'T WAIT!!!<br />
<br />
I've also signed up to a few societies including: the student radio CSR Fm; the Media Society, Yoga, Cycling and Muggle Quidditch xD<br />
<br />
I'm sure all that along with my course will keep me busy enough and I shall try and keep you updated with what's going on<br />

Sorry it's been so long, been a hectic month getting everything ready for moving to UNIVERSITY!!!<br />
And now I'm here and it's all so different and exciting and so scary! Being in a big city it's nerve-wracking!<br />
<br />
As ever there were a few hitches with moving in:<br />
1) Front door is next to impossible to open<br />
2) No hot water thus<br />
3) No heating<br />
4) No internet<br />
5) Fridges didn't work<br />
<br />
Oh what a life<br />
<br />
However thankfully it's all been fixed now and am toasty and pretty happy with uni so far.<br />
<br />
Next stop, FRESHERS!!!TheGirlWithTheGreenUmbrellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09046066770136485045noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492159566379470183.post-74613714163413896652012-08-21T14:24:00.001-07:002012-08-21T14:24:23.158-07:00I'm off to Uni!!Well I guess this is it then, the next stage of my life about to commence, and this will no doubt be the most exciting - it's certainly the scariest!<br />
I'll be leaving home and moving to Canterbury to study Multimedia Journalism at Canterbury Christchurch University. I can't wait to move, I just want to pack already! But I've got four weeks yet so it's just a waiting game now, ahhhhh!!!<br />
Unlike some who go to Uni totally alone, I will be taking my three favourite people with me :) First, my wonderful boyfriend Oli who will be studying Computing at Canterbury and living just a 2 minute walk away rather than an hour-and-a-bit bus&train journey away haha. And then my bestest friends Cat and Em who will be studying History and Film respectively at Kent Uni, which is only a couple of miles up the road. So I feel pretty darn lucky as we'll all be sort of together yet still following our own paths to success.<br />
<br />
However I feel extremely lucky to even have a place at uni, I didn't exactly do brilliantly in my exams especially English. I think I must just fail epically at that because I got an E in my AS again and only a D in my A2. fortunately the B in my coursework brought the whole grade up to a D but it's still not the most desirable result. And then after finally getting onto UCAS and finding my place confirmed I was over the moon, and so surprised of course. I think they may have gone on my work experience to boost my chances.<br />
<br />
Either way, I'm going to University and it's going to be the damn best three years of my life...fingers crossed xP<br />
<br />

How hard is it to miss simple grammatical mistakes - and even some big ones!<br />
<br />
Admittedly it can boil down to the authors themselves not proof-reading their work, even I make mistakes. But then I come back to it in ten minutes and can see them straight away.<br /><br />
For example, Stephenie Meyer in Twilight says that Carlisle is 'more handsomer' - Handsomer isn't even a word!!! Why did nobody question this as it simply does not make sense.<br />
<br />
But the worst that I just came across (and the reason for this post) is in the new book in the Artemis Fowl series: The Last Guardian by Eoin Colfer. Now I love these books and even though I'm too old for them now, they still excite and enthral me and I was really disappointed when I read the sentence "Their progress <u><i>down the feeder rail </i></u>seemed maddeningly slow<b> </b><i><u>down the feeder rail</u></i>". What's maddening is how simple a mistake this is and infuriating in how someone could miss this. Aren't books meant to be double proof-read to escape problems like these? Even if it's a friend, or the postman - somebody!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC3aJHmFl66RB8HR8J35czEU1Em_SA7dEFMF1iZQls0iIKBBwJFE6Vl8RhbjlTrHUfV0Bsyz2ZZ4yMoZya23ku1W6SRsvEWebYxrhXx67AdQ4aH60G6fqNCSwEwsDf9G6aIFfcVLKtG5QO/s1600/artemis.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC3aJHmFl66RB8HR8J35czEU1Em_SA7dEFMF1iZQls0iIKBBwJFE6Vl8RhbjlTrHUfV0Bsyz2ZZ4yMoZya23ku1W6SRsvEWebYxrhXx67AdQ4aH60G6fqNCSwEwsDf9G6aIFfcVLKtG5QO/s400/artemis.jpg" width="257" /></a></div>

<div>
It was the day that the Olympic torch came through my sleepy little town on its way to London for the 2012 Olympic Games!! And it truly was an incredible event for the whole town - it seemed like everyone was down on the seafront and spread along the route to see each bearer run their 300 metres with the torch.<br />
I was standing outside the De La Warr Pavilion and that was where local and international celebrity Eddie Izzard was running yaaay! I love him, especially his stand-up comedy from years ago. So my mum and I stood on the roadside for an hour and a half before he was due and waited. In the meantime we were entertained by two crazy men on bouncy stilts, a little like the feet that Paralympians use.</div>
<div>
Then at about five o'clock the parade started and it was brilliant, every time someone went past even if it was a Policeman they got cheered everyone was just so excited</div>
<div>
And then.<br />
The big moment when the man himself ran by. You could only see part of him as he was surrounded by Gamesmakers making sure he didn't fall over or get attacked and it was over so quickly but I felt oddly humbled by the event and I'm not sure why. I guess it was then that I knew I was proud to be a citizen of this country and to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event.<br />Yes I know that things haven't gone to plan like the budgeting and the G4S mishap but things in life aren't perfect. This is a HUGE event so things are bound to go wrong and I think those people that dislike the Games for those few things that have gone wrong are just grumpy misers<br />
<br />
But I think the best thing of all comes next.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now I had been on the roof all day writing an article for Bexhill FM: a student run radio station that broadcasts for one week every year, and that day they were broadcasting live from the roof coinciding with the torch run. So we had heard rumours that Eddie Izzard would be returning to the roof <span style="background-color: white;">of the De La Warr for pictures in front of Richard Wilson's "</span><i style="background-color: white;">Hey lads I've got a great idea..." </i><span style="background-color: white;">coach and for interviews with press - BBC, ITV </span><span style="background-color: white;">etc.</span><span style="background-color: white;">.<br />And so when they had finished, I got out my phone, pushed my way to the front and interviewed Eddie myself. And it was amazing, my first interview with a famous person and I didn't even have to try very hard. Well I had to stop other people pushing me out of the way but I just jumped in there, asked my three questions and that Friday it was in the newspaper along with my article on Bexhill FM</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">So yes, a day that started out as me writing a small article for a local radio station turned into one of the best days of my life</span><br />
<br />
<br />

Ah so many memories, sadly not all of them good.<br />
I had my last exam today, A2 English Lit which was utter pig crap, the most horrible exam I have ever had the displeasure of taking. I honestly believe that I will be damn lucky to come away with a C overall for this subject. Media? That was a piece of cake, whipping down 20 pages of glorious fact, I even asked for extra paper (which I was the only person to do so). See that's what I can do. Plain solid fact, and that's why I'm taking Journalism at Uni and not English because I don't do well with the analysing of fictitious pieces. Fact all the way please!<br />
But yes, college has been an amazing part of my life, and possibly the best time in the whole of my 14 years in education. Not once in these two years have I been bullied or teased, not once have I lost my friends to evil people, not once ha<span style="background-color: white;">ve I had to do a subject I <i>really </i>hate. Life has been pretty sweet. I've had two boyfriends (admittedly the first was a jerk I should never have let it go on so long) and my current is the most amazing, wonderful guy ever and I hope our time together is long-lasting and true. We're planning on going to the same University (out of chance) so long may it continue!!</span><br />
<br />
I know that I've learned lots about the subjects I took; how to analyse a text, media theorists, what makes a good advertising campaign, but what I've learned the most is how to be a good person. I know it's rather cliché but my tutors really have taught me a lot about life, out there in the real world where not everything is given to you on a plate and you have to really work towards your dreams because one day you will achieve your goals.<br />
I recently went to a Chinese restaurant for my brother's birthday and in my fortune cookie, it said: "All of your hard work will soon be paid off"<br />
<br />
I know that that day will be a good day, but it means that I will have achieved everything I set out to do. But now I know in my heart that I will never achieve <i>everything</i>, there will always be something more, a new goal to strive towards, whether it be getting a 1:1 at University, seeing my child's first day of school, promotion or settling down into retirement and seeing my grandchildren grow up<br />
<br />
As they say, a woman's work is never done<br />

Now I just have to wait til the 16th August to find out if all my hard work HAS paid offTheGirlWithTheGreenUmbrellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09046066770136485045noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6492159566379470183.post-51454225150442636182012-06-13T13:22:00.000-07:002012-06-13T13:22:11.002-07:00Rejected...by McDonald's?!?So I applied for a job at my local McDonald's cos I'm getting pretty desperate for a job now, and umm yeah I got rejected. By MaccyD's. Feeling pretty low right now<br />And it wasn't even a proper interview, it was a group interview with about twenty others, during which we had to question another person, ask them five more questions of our own and then 'report our findings to the group', it was ridiculous! However during the questioning section, they didn't tell us that we'd then have to report back. If I had known I would have sold myself a lot more and asked more relevant question than 'Do you have pets?'<br />
So disappointed. And frustrated. I've had so many interviews and they've rejected me on the basis of I don't have any customer or retail experience. But how am I supposed to <i>get</i> retail experience if no one will employ me for not having any retail experience!!<br /><br />
I guess I'll try the supermarkets next...
